General Electrical Issues

If the connectors in the heat pump or the wiring connected to the breaker box is damaged, the entire system is apt to shut down. This is fairly easily to diagnose. If the heat pump either won’t turn on at all or keeps tripping the circuit breaker when it does, you most likely have a wiring issue. Contact a professional HVAC technician.

Fan Motor

The fan motor runs the fan which blows the air into your house. There’s one on the inside of the house and a second one on the outside to help vent cool or warm air (depending on the season). If electrical power is cut off to the fan motor, then the fan won’t turn and the heat pump won’t move the air into your home.

Compressor Motor

The heat pump’s compressor works to apply heat and pressure to the refrigerant, which then moves into the compressor coils where it is shifted to a liquid state. If the motor won’t run (a significant electrical problem), then the compressor won’t work and the entire cycle is short circuited.

Your fan may still blow, but the air won’t be properly conditioned—it will be warm in the summer and cool in the winter, which is the last thing you need.
